What are the Orders?
The
Orders are a most noble and high honor. There are six different orders:
Order of the Eagle ~ an order reserved for the highest service to our court and festival. Together with their organization, the recipient shall be recognized for the stalwart support they have offered to the Siouxland Renaissance Association.
Order of the Elk ~ the fraternity of those who serve to lead the Siouxland Renaissance Association through the perils of organization and the paths of non-profit labor. They strive to find the path for the workings of multitudes of people with similarly numerous ideas and goals. Offering counsel, experience, and expertise, they strive to ensure the success of the Association.
Order of the Swan ~ the fraternity of quiet volunteers who serve faithfully on the committees and projects, spending much of the year preparing all for our Festival. They offer wise counsel, generous time, and unstinting effort that all may be ready for the Festival, and that our Association runs smoothly as a cart on a well worn track. While their effort is often unseen, their presence does engender appreciation from all and sundry. (Board members are not eligible)
Order of the Owl ~ the fraternity of those who seek to spread education through the populace, will they or nill they. Their own studious nature and copious research is offered with generosity and skill, enticing all present to learn that which will enrich their lives and expand their minds.
Order of the Ox ~ the fraternity of those who bring wares to our festival that all may be enticed to take home memories in tangible form or taste something that satisfies their desire for an experience with food.
Order of the Dancing Bear ~ the fraternity of those who do make our hearts sing in harmony and laugh in appreciation and gasp in astonishment at their endeavors on behalf of entertaining all those who gather.
Each year endorsements are made by anyone involved with the SRA to the Orders Committee. This committee meets in secret and decides upon the most deserving endorsement for each category and awards the recipient at the festival.
What are the rules?
1. You may sponsor as many people as you like. Number of nominations for a particular person or organization will be taken into account, but will not be the determining factor.
2. You may not sponsor yourself.
3. Members of the Committee or their relatives will not be considered for knighting during their term of service.
4. All sponsorships must be in our hands by May 15.
5. The Committee may sponsor recipients.
6. Sponsorships must include a way to contact you for support information.
7. The Siouxland Renaissance Association Board, at the recommendation of the Development committee, will decide on the members for next year’s award committee.
8. Decisions of the Committee will remain secret until the knighting takes place. Presentations will occur through the festival at various times. If your nominee is selected you will be notified of time and place of ceremony. You are asked to keep this a closely guarded secret and not disclose this information to anyone. You may be recruited to help obtain your nominee for the ceremony without raising suspicions.
Who is on the Committee?
The Committee is made up of three people: one Chamberlain and two Comptrollers.
